Usage Tips Pre-treated before using the wood in the water: Start by soaking the driftwood in water with soda and salt, then bring it to a boil for at least 1 hour. Notice the tannins being released, and the color is darkening. Change the water and boil it again for 3–5 times, then soak the driftwood in water, changing the water once a day. In general, the tannins can be removed entirely within a week. You may purchase protein cotton for your tank. Place the protein cotton into the filter bucket and turn it on to release the tannins quickly until the water doesn’t turn yellow.
